Welcome Message

Welcome to the St. John of the Cross Web Site. Saint John of the Cross is a Catholic Elementary School. We educate children from Preschool through Eighth Grade. We stress the traditions of the Catholic Church and the teachings of Jesus Christ. We have a loving, competent faculty and supportive, involved parents. Our students often cite the feeling of "family" when asked what is special about St. John of the Cross School.

Mission Statement

The mission of St. John of the Cross School is to serve the educational needs of the child in an environment that upholds the ideals of the Catholic Church.  We are committed to working closely with the parents to impart a sound academic education in accordance with each student's unique and God-given talents, communicating the teachings of the Catholic Church, and preparing our students to recognize their potential, develop a positive self-image, and become self-directed, life-long learners.

Our Goals for 2009 - 2010

Spiritual

We offer every student the opportunity to develop a faith life that is rooted in the Gospel values of faith, hope and love.  The foundation of our school is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and fosters an atmosphere of faithfulness, honesty and respect.  Our students are educated in a community of support, respect and tolerance modeled after the example of Christian love taught by Jesus.  Students will be invited to strengthen their relationship with Jesus through celebration of the Eucharist at Mass, daily prayer and activities that encourage outreach and service to others.

Academic

Our curriculum is developed by the Office of Catholic Education of
the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and is based on Pennsylvania state standards.  Students receive daily instruction in our core curriculum of religion, integrated language arts, mathematics, science and social studies as well as weekly instruction in technology, music and physical education.  Support services in reading, math and speech are provided by the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit.

Social

Our students will be invited to participate in a variety of activities to help them recognize and develop their talents.  Students can participate in several sports, instrumental band, Student Council, Book Club, Art classes, Children’s Choir, Scouts, the Safety Patrol, numerous academic competitions and a variety of enrichment
classes such as cooking, photography and chess.
